1GHz S40 Nokia C3-01.5 pictures surface, is the first of many

Today we got lucky! A new unannounced S40 Nokia handset with a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM broke loose and we got a few shots to show you. The Nokia C3-01.5 is the first S40 phone based on the new hardware platform, but it looks exactly as its C3-01 Touch and Type sibling.

Just a month ago we heard about a new wave of S40 handsets coming up. We also encountered an interesting rumor about a new S40 handset with a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, a ClearBlack capacitive display and hardware QWERTY keyboard.

The Nokia C3-01.5 that we meet with today (quite a name, right) is not the rumored handset, but it probably comes from the same lineup. It’s a refresh of the already familiar C3-01 Touch and Type with the notable improvement of a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM. The rest of the specs should be the same.

According to a few leaked documents, the new models that Nokia has in the works are the C2-01.5 (RM722), C3-01.5 (RM-702), X2-01/X2-03 (RM-709), X3-02.5 (RM775 or RM-776) and the X2-01.1(RM-717). As you can see all these should be upgraded versions of some old fellas.

As the leaked pictures suggest, the retail names will probably stay the same. Nokia's product naming convention is obviously bound to get even more confusing.

We guess those S40 announcements should not be that far away in time. Nokia World in September, anyone?

Nokia 500 Fate Fully Exposed (Image)

It seems that rumored features of the Nokia 500 "Fate" were spot on, as an advertisement for the upcoming Symbian-powered handset confirm what little information we had. According to the copy, 500 will offer a 1GHz processor and five-megapixel camera -- and surprisingly, will ship with a set of three backplates in red, blue, and black.

Fate is the lowest-end of four yet-to-be-announced Nokia handsets leaked in a recent roadmap, alongside 600 Cindy, 700 Zeta, and 701 Helen. All four models will supposedly pack 1GHz CPUs, with the 700-series said to offer the post-Anna Symbian build, Belle.

    Nokia Releasing Four 1GHz Symbians?

A mysterious Nokia Symbian device came to our attention early this morning, running what looks like the post-Anna Symbian Belle update. While that smartphone was allegedly the N5, it seems Nokia has a whole lot more similar devices in the works, as we can see in some some docs that purport to reveal four new upcoming Symbian devices.

Sadly, the angle of these shots cut off the specs for some, and the provenance of the images is a bit suspect due to numerous typos, but they're fascinating nonetheless. We can see that at least two, the 701 Helen and 700 Zeta, are supposed to ship running Belle, and all four will be outfitted with 1GHz processors, making them the speediest Symbians around.

All four Symbians look to be quite reasonably-sized, with screens in the 3.2-3.5 inch range. The display technologies vary between the devices, as do options like NFC support. The 701 Helen looks like it will be the workhorse of the group, with the 700 Zeta representing a slimmer alternative. The 600 Cindy will be media-focused, and the 500 Fate will be the cheapest of the lot, for the budget-conscious.

We wish we had more to go on, and some idea of when to expect these smartphones, but this is still quite the tantalizing teaser.

Nokia N9 Visits FCC, Tears It Apart, Publishes Manual

After the MeeGo developer device, the Nokia N950, was dismantled while stopping by at FCC recently, the N9 model which is the publicly available Nokia MeeGo has just visited the same Commission.

Following the same procedure, the Commission tears the Nokia N9. It's always good to take a peak under the plastic and look at the silicon if you are the techy type. Besides for a wide range of bands supported (GSM850/900/1800/1900/GPRS/EGPRS MHz and WCDMA I/II(1900)/IV(1700)/V(850)/VII/HSDPA/HSUPA MHz) you can take a look at the non-removable batter and the eight-megapixel camera sensor. If you want to learn more about the phone, there's also a manual published so you can meet the N9 and MeeGo, maybe even learn a couple of things.

    nokia-maps-says-hello-to-iphone-and-android

Nokia is known for having excellent mapping data and offering which so far was included on its own Symbian phones -- and which will come to Windows Phone soon. Espoo flipped the switch on its maps service and this is now available for Android and iPhone users by accessing maps.nokia.com.

Regardless if you're running Android (Froyo and up) or iOS (version 4 or newer) you will now be able to access Nokia Maps Mobile on your phone that takes advantage of HTML5. Besides the usual map data, the mobile site not only locates you and allows for surrounding place discovery, but it will also enable you to plan your routes or see where the public transport lines will take you. Of course you'll compare it to Google Maps and Bing and we're glad that there are several choices available when it comes to maps.

The Nokia N9 lands at FCC, bares all for the camera

You will notice the pop-out SIM tray on the top of the device that thankfully does not require the assistance of a pointed tool to be taken out because of a lever mechanism. The non-user-replaceable 1450mAh Li-Ion battery uses a cable to connect to the phone, unlike the N8, which used a standard Nokia battery and was hence, to some extent, user-replaceable. You can also see the inside of the back shell that houses all the radio antennas. Then there's also the 8 megapixel camera sensor.

FCC has also been kind enough to provide the user manual for the Nokia N9.

Thumbs up The Nokia 500 is Nokia's first 1GHz Symbian smartphone

The Nokia 500 is Nokia's first 1GHz Symbian smartphone

The Nokia 500 has just been announced as Nokia latest Symbian Anna smartphone. The new phone is based on the Nokia C5-03 specs-wise but refreshes some of the key features, retaining the reportedly affordable price tag.

The Nokia 500 has a 3.2-inch capacitive screen with 640 x 360 pixel resolution and there's a 5 megapixel camera on the back. Connectivity is covered by 14.4Mbps HSDPA and 5.8Mbps HSUPA speeds, Wi-Fi (no N support here), GPS, a charging microUSB port and a 3.5mm standard audio jack. There's 2GB of internal memory and a microSD slot for adding more storage.

The Nokia 500 comes with exchangeable back covers in different colors (two extra supplied with the phone). Much like with the Nokia N79 back in the day, the Nokia 500 changes its wallpaper automatically to match the color of the back cover you put on it.

watch on youtube Meet the Nokia 500

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem the 1GHz CPU has improved the performance much. If you scrub to 1:31 m in the video, you will see the presenter scrolling the News Feed in the Facebook app. Well, we can clearly see some stuttering in the scrolling action.

The Nokia 500 will launch in black in Q3 with a white version coming in Q4 too. There will be six differently colored back panels at the launch in Q3. It's supposed to cost ˆ150 before taxes and subsidies. Sounds affordable for a smartphone alright.
